Mid Level Pistol Course (2 Days/16 H)

This second-level training course is designed to sharpen the shooter’s reactivity and operational effectiveness. Through integrated theoretical and practical sessions, students will master dynamic engagement and advanced manipulation procedures, including malfunction clearance and rapid reloading. Special emphasis is placed on transitioning to modern Red Dot Sight (RDS) systems, comparing their performance against traditional iron sights in terms of target acquisition. The module includes non-conventional shooting techniques, such as single-handed weapon operation, providing holistic training aimed at converting technical skills into instinctive muscle memory.

Experience Requirements & Prerequisites

This is an Intermediate level course. Successful completion of a Basic Pistol Course or a verifiable equivalent is mandatory for enrollment. Candidates must demonstrate:

  • Safe handling and proficiency with their specific weapon system.
  • Mastery of marksmanship fundamentals.
  • Proficiency in drawing and recovering the firearm from a holster.
  • Licensing: Possession of a valid Personal Firearms License.
  • Vetting: Background checks are mandatory, unless the student is a sworn Law Enforcement Officer, Corrections Officer, Licensed Private Security, or Military personnel.

Safety Note: Students who fail to demonstrate or maintain minimum safety requirements or the technical competencies necessary at the start of the course may be dismissed at the technical staff’s discretion.

Competitive Qualification Overrides

Active rankings in competitive shooting disciplines (e.g., IDPA, IPSC, USPSA) may satisfy the required prerequisites. Subject to technical staff evaluation, shooters with qualifying rankings in recognized disciplines may be granted direct access to advanced modules based on their specific division and classification.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES & CORE COMPETENCIES

Upon successful completion of the course, the trainee will be proficient in the following operational skills:

  • Presentation & Holster Work: Refining the draw stroke and fluid re-holstering within a dynamic environment, ensuring both safety and speed.
  • Visual Picture Analysis: Advanced management of the relationship between sight alignment/picture, target size, and operational distance for optimal accuracy.
  • Trigger Control: Developing a deep understanding of trigger reset and management to maximize rapid-fire precision.
  • Cadence of Fire: Applying recoil management principles to effectively engage targets with rapid, multiple-shot sequences.
  • Malfunction Drills: Mastering emergency protocols for the immediate resolution of firearm interruptions and stoppages.
  • Advanced Manipulation: Automating tactical and emergency reload techniques under high-stress conditions.
  • Unilateral Shooting: Mastering the employment of the weapon system using only the strong hand or weak hand.
  • Shooting on the Move: Acquiring the biomechanical skills necessary for dynamic engagement and maintaining shot stability while maneuvering.
  • Target Transitions: Executing rapid and precise transitions between multiple targets.
  • Situational Awareness: Developing protocols for threat scanning, analysis, and effective communication in defensive contexts.
  • Legal Framework & Lethal Force: Comprehensive understanding of the legal profiles and practical implications regarding the use of deadly force.
  • Multiple Engagements: Increasing proficiency in delivering precision fire across complex scenarios with multiple threats.
  • Tactical Use of Cover: Applying the tactical principles of cover and concealment to maximize protection during defensive encounters.
  • Decision-Making Under Pressure: Refining reactive decision-making processes for rapid and effective responses in high-stakes situations.
  • Target Discrimination: Developing the ability to identify and select threats for the ethical and conscious use of force in defensive scenarios.
